Keeping Your Motivation High

What keeps individuals so focused that they become determined to achieve their goals at any cost? There is no one simple answer, but we can take a look at a couple of types of motivations that promote goal achieving: Intrinsic and Extrinsic motivation.

Intrinsic Motivation: individuals are moved by the personal significance and pleasure the action brings in himself. Accomplishing an action equals personal satisfaction and there is no greater importance than having that feeling. Having fun, feeling pleasure just for the inner experience of achieving this sensation motivates people to accomplish tasks. An example would be achieving a difficult task such as after a long time of putting a lot of effort to finishing it.

Extrinsic Motivation: individuals pursue an activity for the value its outcome brings. Training hard to finish a marathon because of its valued to having achieved this task. To receive recognition from others is what ultimately drives these individuals to maintain their high motivation. Working long hours to receive a promotion is another source of motivation.

Whether it is intrinsic or extrinsic motivation what eventually drives individuals to achieve their best, the underlying key factor is passion. To sustain the constant grind to overcome one’s challenges, individuals fully embrace a healthy identity with reaching the ultimate result. It is healthy because individuals are able to balance achieving personal goals and engaging in a age-appropriate social life. Differently would be if individuals become obsessive with reaching goals at the expense of others.
To stay motivated, identify your passion and go for it.
